20 Degrees

Im in the North Carolina High Country in July. Good friends bought a cabin here 3 years ago. They spend a couple months here every year and I try and join in for a week here and there. I wasn’t prepared for what was to be discovered. Avery County borders Watauga County. This is a pretty rural area so surprisingly this area has attracted some of the most eclectic and creative chefs. So in addition to wonderful restaurants, you can find inviting shopping, and charming little villages like Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, and Linville.

Grandfather mountain, named for the profile of an old man on its ridge has scenic hiking trails. 14 trails have waterfalls. There are three wineries within close proximity, rolling golf courses, and a world class destination Spa. Need I go on? OK I will.

How about zip lines, rafting, fishing and canoeing. Caverns and gem mining are great for the kiddos.

The house pricing is around 300K making it an attractive retirement area.

But, I saved the best for last. The average temperature is 20 degrees cooler than most other states this time of year.

Cheers!
